I admit, I’m spoiled

To answer my previous question – we’re spoiled because every night we were treated to wonderful sunsets:

The best thing about these photos is that they were all taken from the deck of my family’s cottage and I haven’t edited any of them. I am so fortunate that I was able to see God’s beauty like this from a deck!

Next up, all the animals we encountered.

Vancouver Island – Part 1

Well, Mr. Bean and I are back from Vancouver Island – it was wonderful! Other than the first day, we had lovely weather. Rest assured that I did take many, many pictures – so many that I have a few posts in the works.

I came back to 850+ items in my google reader, so I’m sorry that it’ll take a while for me to get to everything, especially since I need to finish my final technical report for my internship.

So what did we do? First we took the ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island:

This is a model of what it looks like:

I love how they tell us that there are kid’s lifejackets.

We arrived at my family’s cottage to this:

Mr. Bean and I had not one, but two chances to go to the West Coast of the Island. First we went to China Beach on the Juan de Fuca trail.

My Sea Pineapple

There was a really neat cliff on one edge of the beach – part of it was raining:

And there was a tree.

We also had the chance to walk through the temperate rainforest – Mr. Bean was a champion and walked across a fallen tree.

We also went to Tofino and Long Beach.

You can’t really see it, but my foot was wounded by some barnacles whilst I was swimming. Like the ones on these mussels:

There is little more that I like than jumping in the Pacific Ocean:

Coming up, why we were spoiledevery evening!

Transformers

Mr. Bean and I just got back from watching the second Transformers movie, keeping in line with our month-a-versary/anniversary transformer watching tradition on opening night.*

The verdict? Ah-mazing! There were a few awkward moments a la the first movie but it came together really well at the end. Most of the time I was caught between laughter, marveling at the graphics and being semi-anxious about the main characters during the intense action. (Am I the only one who gets anxious when the main characters of a movie are in mortal peril?) I don’t want to give anything else away, so watch the trailer and then go see it in theatres!

Seen any good movies lately?

*Mr. Bean and I went and saw the first Transformers movie on opening night, which also happens to be our 2 year dating anniversary and the day that we got engaged! Yesterday just so happened to be our 10 month-a-versary, so the movie release had good timing!

Our New Doorstop Neighbour

Guess what I saw as I walked down our front path this morning?

DSC_0904

Yes, that’s a baby jack rabbit. I’m not a huge fan of jack rabbits in general but I can make an exception for this little guy.

DSC_0913

Apparently the baby isn’t frightened by Mr. Bean or is too frightened to move as Mr. Bean was able to get really close.

Now if only I could find some baby ducks to take pictures of…

Seen any baby animals lately?

Happy Convocation Heather!

Today my best friend Heather convocated with a BA in German! She had a party in celebration of it tonight and she asked me to make a cake!

I used my yellow cake recipe and put raspberries in between the layers. Most people didn’t know that it was gluten free until I told them!

Herzlichen Gluckwunsch = Heartfelt Luckwish = Congratulations!

I wanted to make the cake really exciting, so I made fondant stars and put them on wires. I made the wires a bit too long for the size of this cake, so they liked to fall over. Thankfully, a pair of wire cutters were found and the cake was salvaged!

Congratulations Heather!
