Why This?

A common practise at our church is for the people involved in the service to pray beforehand. Sometimes, they get words, pictures or phrases that are then shared with the congregation as prompters for prayer.

One Sunday morning one of the pictures/phrases was a Christmas tree set up and completely decorated paired with the image of that same tree in a forest completely unadorned. The priest explained what he thought a possible meaning for this would be: When the tree was decorated for Christmas, it was pretty but dead. However, the unadorned tree was alive.

This really spoke to me. (ie. I almost burst out crying in the middle of the service – not something I am comfortable with.) I really struggle with what people think of me and sometimes focus too much on what the secular world wants, which leaves my life and self esteem lacking. Thus, this blog will be outlining my quest to be without adornment, be myself and be alive (and random babbles along the way, of course!).

Thanks for joining me and I hope you enjoy the ride!

  1. Hi Christine,
I love the sentiment, “Without Adornment.” What is more beautiful than nature as is?

Watching young women thoughtfully become themselves is such a treat. I have two daughters, probably your age. In grad school and newly married. What a delightful time.

    Looking forward to your posts!
