Wilton Fondant and Gum Paste: Class 4

Tonight was my last Wilton Cake decorating class. Preparing for it was quite difficult – given that my presentation was today, I didn’t have time to make a cake, so Mr. Bean went to the grocery store, bought a cake and scraped off the decorations. In addition, I made 10 daisies on Saturday but I put them on a plate to dry. However, when I tried to take them off the plate this evening, they all broke.

We practised making favour boxed (the purple thing on the cake) and cutting out shapes. I then re-made my daisies, a bunch of leaves and stems. My inspiration was daisies growing into the sky. What do you think?

Wilton Fondant and Gum Paste: Class 3

It’s a weird feeling knowing that I only have one class left of all the Wilton cake decorating classes. At least I know that I am now capable of making many, many types of flowers. Including the ones I made last night including carnations, daisies and “fantasy flowers”:

Next week is my last course and my last cake – I am going to miss them. Would you ever take a cake decorating class?

P.S. Apparently my gum paste worked well enough to make these flowers, even though they did take longer than normal to dry.

Wilton Fondant and Gum Paste: Class 2

I didn’t post about class one because I didn’t go, but I didn’t really miss much.

Today, we played with fondant. We make drapes, handkerchiefs and ribbons. We also started to make the base of the carnation out of gum paste, which we will expand on next week.

I didn’t know what to expect for this cake as I didn’t have any booklet, but I had fun coming up with a design as I went along. Call me biased, but I think it’s really cute!

I can’t believe I’m already taking the last Wilton course. Where does time go?

Wilton III Finale Cake

Tonight, I made the finale cake for my Wilton course 3. I have to say that I am terribly impressed with myself – it’s not perfect but it turned out nicely!

Having made my own cake, I now realize why my wedding cake was so expensive!

Wilton III: Class 3

Today, I was the only person in my class. Where the other 5 people went, I have no idea. At least it meant that I had some nice conversation with my instructor about cake decorating and things.

I got to make flowers using a lily nail – it’s like a rounded cup shape with a stick out of the bottom. I made lilies, petunias, poinsettias and morning glories. I made extra lilies so that I can put them on my finale cake*!

* I am going to be making the finale cake tomorrow as next week I’m on Vancouver Island!
